Becoming a Christian

Being a Christian means being a follower of Jesus Christ and trusting in Him for eternal salvation.  This is a decision that we each must make for ourselves and cannot be conferred upon us by birth or religion.  It is about FAITH.

F is for forgiveness.  Everyone has sinned and needs God's forgiveness (Romans 3:23).  God's forgiveness is only available through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:7).

A is for available.  God's forgiveness is available to all (John 3:16) but is not automatic (Matthew 7:21).

I is for impossible.  According to the Bible, it is impossible to get to heaven on our own (Ephesians 2:8 - 9).  So, how does a sinful person get God's forgiveness, have eternal life, and enter heaven?

T is for turn.  We must turn away from our sin and self (Luke 13:3) and turn to Jesus alone as Savior and Lord (John 14:6).  Romans 10:9-10 says that if we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, we shall be saved.  The heart believes and the mouth confesses.

H is for Heaven, where we will live with God forever (John 14:3).

If you want to become a Christian, pray this simple prayer, believing in your heart that Jesus is Lord.

"God, I know that I am a sinner.  I know that Jesus died for my sins so that I could live with you.  Thank you for this sacrifice for my sins.  I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior.  Help me to live in a way that pleases you.   Amen."

To grow in your Christian faith, find a Bible-teaching church and plug-in. Go to Sunday school or small group Bible study as well as to the worship service.  Get baptized.  Read your Bible and pray every day.  Having a relationship with God is similiar to having a relationship with anyone else.  You have to get to know Him.  His primary methods of letting us get to know Him are through the Bible and prayer.

If you would like to let us know about your decision to become a Christian or have any other questions, please email us at coady@coadybaptistchurch.org.  We would be happy to help you find a church home.
